Beaverdam Park Fishing Report

August 6, 2018

Despite the rather warm weather and increasing water temperatures, the fishing in Beaverdam Reservoir has continued to be good at the beginning of August.  Anglers continue to catch largemouth bass, crappie, catfish, yellow perch, chain pickerel, and bluegills.  A 7and a half pound largemouth bass was caught on Sunday, August 5!

The bass continue to provide excitement when they attack topwater lures first thing in the morning (we open at 6 a.m. until Labor Day.  Crankbaits and plastic lures work better later in the day.  Minnows continue to produce the occasional bass near the pier.

Shiners continue to be the bait of choice for crappie and perch.  The crappie seem to have moved away from the pier at the main entrance to the park but anglers are still catching a few fishing from the bank at the Farys Mill entrance.

Pickerel continue to ambush live bait and artificials near the weed beds.

One angler had great luck using neon green nightcrawlers to catch lots of panfish.

So, come on out and enjoy fishing in beautiful Beaverdam Reservoir.  Our 635 acre lake offers plenty of fishing for all types of anglers.  We usually have nightcrawlers and shiners at the Ranger Station but it’s a good idea to call before you come to make sure we have not run out of bait for sale.  We rent johnboats, canoes, and kayaks.  A few of our kayaks come set up with rod holders so you can try out kayak fishing.  Our number is 804-693-2107.
