Victim-Witness Assistance Program
The Gloucester Victim-Witness Assistance Program is located in the Gloucester Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office. It was established in 1990 and is funded by a grant from the Department of Criminal Justice Services.
The current director of our program is Karen Mortensen. She became the director in 2007. The program also has a Domestic Violence Advocate.
If you are a crime victim or witness, we are here to help you. Virginia law gives crime victims many rights. We can help you understand your rights and know where to go for services. We can:
- Explain what to expect in court
- Keep you updated about your court case
- Go with you to court hearings
- Tell you about protection available to you
- Refer you for help with:
- Medical bills and other out-of-pocket losses
- Counseling
- Support Groups
- Food and Shelter
- Medical/dental care
