May is National Military Appreciation Month

 During National Military Appreciation Month, Gloucester's NMAM Committee acknowledges our military past, present and the families here at home.

1 Loyalty Day
6 Military Spouses Day - remember to say Thank You to our Military's Support System...the Spouses!
8 Victory in Europe Day V-E Day or VE Day, declared in 1945
15 Peace Officers Memorial Day   photo of military cemetary
21 Armed Forces Day
28 Gloucester Veteran's Graves to be honored by Local Scouts .  Scouts across the county will be placing flags on Veterans Graves.  For a listing of cemeteries click here
28 7th Virginia Encampmentreturns to the Court Circle, interpreting camp life during the War for Independence
30 Memorial Day - The National Moment of Remembrance, established by Congress , asks American wherever they are at 3 pm, local time to pause in a n act of national unity (duration: one minute)  

2011 Month-Long Happenings:

The Gloucester Visitor Center continues to sponsor “A Million Thanks," a writing campaign to send messages of appreciation to military men and women on active duty in the Middle East.  STOP by the Center and fill out a card!  Year-round.

Gloucester Library also offers cards for the " Million Thanks."  Year-round.
