STORMWATER

As a result of the change in administration of the stormwater permitting from the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) to the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) there have been impacts that affect development on a larger scale.  (See news release at http://dcr.virginia.gov/pr_relz.htm#swmstuf).  The most significant aspect is that all activities greater than 2,500 square feet will require a stormwater permit issued through the Department of Conservation and Recreation.

Information and documents associated with stormwater permitting are available at the DCR website- http://www.dcr.virginia.gov/sw/stormwat.htm.  Scroll through the page midway to the Registration PDF and associated documents.

Stormwater permits require the completion of a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP); reference italicized portion of Registration Application denoting this requirement (see illustration below).  The following document is a checklist of the requirements of the SWPPP under the DEQ program (may be used as reference under DCR administration)-- <SWPPP Contents.pdf>
