Wish List Description:
Adult Literacy would be grateful to receive a new lap top
computer with internet connection capability. Monetary donations
would allow us to increase our consumable textbook collection.
The average cost of a GED book is $20.00, Pre-GED books are
$15.00 and the books for a basic and / or beginning reader
ranges from $ll.00 - $16.00. ESL materials range from $16.00 -
$20.00. A computer program to assist beginning readers and ESL
learners is $105.00.
Holiday
Volunteer Opportunities:
Adult Literacy is dependent upon volunteers who are the teachers
and tutors for the adults who enroll. Volunteers will need to
complete an application and the Virginia State Police background
check. There is a 15-hour orientation and training that includes
online training. Supervision, materials and an individual
student plan is provided as well as words of encouragement. For
the the person who wants to volunteer and "teaching is not your
thing," opportunities are available for fundraising, committee
work and "office" assistance. Long term and short term
availability is appreciated.
Other Gift Ideas:
Dedicated donations would be used to assist students who need an
educational evaluation. The book needed to begin the process is
$600.00. Educational evaluations will not only assist students
and teachers in the teaching/learning process but may help a
student qualify for accommodations when completing the GED
Tests. An educational evaluation may unlock the mystery of
learning for the adult.

or her "bear" from the Bethel Bears Giving Tree. Each bear on
the tree represents a child and his or her wishes for toys or
clothing.

Description: The Club
could use new laptop computers to replace the 10 orginials that
we received as a grant 7 years ago. A lot have stopped working,
this would allow our youth internet access to work on their
homework and increase their computer skills. The Club could
benefit from a PA/intercom system to be able to call through our
41,000 sq. ft. building, right now we have to use two way radios
that aren't always reliable. The club would benefit from a video
projector and blow up screen, thus allowing for movie nights.
The Club would benefit from new digital cameras to allow us to
begin a photography club.

Other Gift
Ideas: The Club
would greatly benefit from New or fairly new 12-15 passenger
vans that could be used to transport more of the communities
youth to the Club. Currently their is a van that services two
out of the nine schools in the community that is privately owned
and operated. The vans would allow the Club more opportunities
to take youth on both educational and fun trips they may not
otherwise be able to attend. The Club has an operating expense
of approximately $300,000.00 a year and relies on grants and
donations to assist in covering these expenses. Memorial
donations are welcome and pending on the donated amount rooms
can be named in the honor someone. Dedication donation are
welcome and can be designated toward operation expenses,
membership sponsorship, building repairs, activity expenses,
electrical and heating/air expenses.

Volunteers
are needed to staff the Gloucester Visitor Center located on the
Court Circle. Work a minimum of 3 hrs per MONTH (6 or more hrs
preferred)meeting new & interesting people and helping them find
what they need. Small gift shop with great Gloucester items.
Shifts: Mon-Sat 10 am-1 pm, or 1 pm-4 pm; Sun 1 pm-4 pm.
Training provided. A great way to spend a few hours! We need
YOU.

Basic
needs such as food, clothing and shelter are needed. Currently
the food pantry is only 50% stocked and the holiday season puts
a large strain on the food resources. Monetary donations also
allow flexibility to provide immediate emergency needs, such as
temporary housing or help with energy costs. Both the angel
tree and adopt a family program need volunteers and contributors
so we can help more families.
