Gloucester Street Addressing

GIS addresses new construction using a grid system.  For every ten (10) feet of road frontage there is one address number (example: 100' = 10 numbers).  If the center line of house A is 100' from the center line of house B, there addresses would be 10 numbers apart.

GIS is also responsible for naming roads.  Petitions are sent to the individual land owner(s) that the new road is on and they name the road.  GIS checks to make sure the road name is not a duplicate road name in the county or a sound alike name (example:  Lee St. and Leigh St.).  For a petition, call 693-1109.

GIS also coordinates the maintenance of street signs.  If a pole is knocked over or bent or the street sign is missing, they are replaced as soon as it is reported to GIS.  Please call 693-0129 between 8AM and 4:30PM to report damaged or missing street signs.
