The
Planning Department maintains population data for the County as released from
the U.S. Census Bureau and the
University of Virginia’s Weldon Cooper Center.
Staff monitors the release of census data and annual estimates to evaluate
current demographic and socioeconomic statistics and trends. The Department
provides census data to the public on a fairly regular basis. Every ten years,
the Planning Department provides technical support for the County’s
Redistricting Committee. The County is required by State law to redraw
districts provide proportional representation in all Magisterial Districts. New
district lines are based on the biennial census data and reflect changes in the
population of the County.
