2007 Holiday Parade Winners

"KICK OFF THE HOLIDAY SEASON" with our Main Street parade.  Always held on the 1st Saturday in December. Businesses, schools, churches, civic organizations and citizens fill the street with beautiful floats and marching units. The Gloucester High School Marching Dukes and the Middle School Combined Bands perform wonderful seasonal music.  The parade is sponsored by the Gloucester Citizen's Holiday Parade Committee, Parks, Recreation and Tourism, Dr. Timothy Leigh, Martin Custom DeSigns, Chimney Corner, Ken Houtz Chevrolet Buick, Smith's Florist, Gloucester Chamber of Commerce and the Daffodil Festival Committee.

Santa Claus is coming to town!!!

Wanted...People with costumes (other than Santa) to walk in Parade!
If you or someone you know has a costume (Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, an animal or cartoon character), please consider walking and wearing it in the parade.  Youngsters love to see characters in the parade, so come out and have some fun making children smile.  For information on registering please email us!

Holiday Parade Arts and Crafts Show

Expanded in 2007!  This show features Fine Arts, Original Handcrafts, Photographers, Merchandisers (folks with manufactured goods) and Non Profits in the Colonial Courtcircle!  Show hours are 10 am to 4 pm.  Do a little Christmas Shopping on the green!  This show is sponsored by the Daffodil Festival.  You will also find many Gloucester items in the Visitor Center located on the Courtcircle.

Join us on Sunday, December 7, at 4:30 pm in the Courtcircle for the annual Courtcircle Tree Illumination featuring holiday music from Bethel, Botetourt and Peasley Schools.  This “Norman Rockwell” Holiday Event is a great way to get into the mood for the holiday season.  So be sure to join us for this Holiday Kick Off Concert on the Green!  For more information email or call 693-1264.

It is your responsibility to inform your participants of all line up information.

  • Line-up begins at Noon all units must be in place by 1:45 pm.  Parade begins at 2 pm.
  • Parade line-up is at Botetourt Elementary School on Main Street.
  • Motorized Units will parallel park on the street (Please enter Main Street from the North - Walter Reed Hospital end).
  • Marching Units will line up in the student drop off loop – the driveway closest to the Courtcircle. 
  • Equestrian Units will use the bus loop area.
  • When you arrive at Botetourt please visit “Check-in” located in the parking lot.  You will receive your line-up number at check-in. You will return your line up number at the Judges Stand (Dr. Leigh's Office 6661 Main Street).
  • Each group must provide an “Official Walker” to carry your line-up number.  This number identifies you to the emcees & judges.  All numbers must be carried on the left side of unit. 
    Do not attach or tape to unit, numbers must be returned to the Parade Committee at the judges stand – during the parade.
  • ALL EQUESTRIAN UNITS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REMOVAL & CLEAN UP OF ANIMAL WASTES IN THE LINE UP AREA, ON THE PARADE ROUTE & IN THE LOADING AREAS. PERSONS ASSIGNED TO CLEAN UP MUST CHECK IN WITH THE PARADE ATTENDANT AT BOTETOURT.  FAILURE WILL MEAN EXCLUSION IN FUTURE PARADES
  • Children may not be left unattended.
  • ABSOLUTELY NO CANDY OR OTHER OBJECTS MAY BE THROWN FROM PARADE UNITS INTO THE CROWDS.  Walkers may hand out approved items.  This safety regulation, protects spectators from being hit by objects.  It also prevents children from running into the street to pick up something where they can not be seen by the drivers of decorated floats.
  • The judges & emcee will be located at Dr. Leigh’s Office 6661 Main Street.  Please make sure that your line-up number is visible in this area.  Please return your number to the Parade Attendant at this site.
  • NO PARTICIPANT MAY DRESS AS SANTA. Since we have made arrangements for Santa to visit us from the North Pole, no one else may dress as Santa.  SANTA WILL BE AT THE END OF THE PARADE.
  • No stopping along the parade route, everyone must keep moving.  Stopping along the route will cause you to be restricted from future parades.
  • Disregarding these rules is grounds for exclusion from future parades. Rules keep us all safe.
  • Please disband in the Main Street Center.
  • Parade awards will be presented immediately after the parade at Dr. Leigh’s Office 6661 Main Street.  Please have a representative stop by to see if your group won!  Results will be posted on the Gloucester Citizen’s Holiday Parade Web page & in the Gazette Journal.  You may stop by Parks, Recreation & Tourism to pick up awards.  http://gloucesterva.info/pr/events/hp.htm
