Examples of Volunteer Duties

Park Beautification: Weed flower beds, plant annuals, mulch beds,
prune shrubs; clean up litter from throughout the park; assist with new
projects as needed.

Programs: Assist with environmental education programs including
weekend
-
programs such as bird walks, canoe trips, crafts, etc. as well as
school programs on and off site and youth summer programs.

Park Operations: Assist with office operations such as providing
information for park visitors, answering the phone, maintaining brochures,
assisting with park displays.
-
Trail Maintenance: Assist with the maintenance of trails throughout
the park and establishing new trails.
-
Park Events: Assist with special events held with-in the park and
off-site such as Daffodil Festival, Celebrate Families, Paddle Jam, etc.

Construction Projects: Assist park staff with building projects
throughout the park.

Explanation
of Volunteer Process
1. Applicant
completes form which includes a criminal background check. These checks
are performed on all parks and recreation volunteers who work with
children or work around money and equipment. The screening process is
not meant to be an invasion of privacy. It protects park visitors, our
participants, county property.
2. Applicant is
interviewed and a discussion is held about positions they are interested
in and opportunities available.
3. Upon accepting
the positions, the volunteer participates in an orientation program
which explains policies, the incentive program, and park information.
4. Volunteers are
given the opportunity to complete evaluation forms at least once a year
or upon leaving their position in the park.
