| AREA BROADBAND DISCUSSIONS & ACTIONS: With steps underway at the federal and state levels to ensure broadband access in rural areas, efforts continue on the local level as well. At a recent roundtable discussion local government representatives indicated that making broadband services available and affordable for everyone in the area is key to the region's economic vitality. Localities are currently awaiting word from the NTIA as to whether the Middle Peninsula and Northern Neck have been awarded the first round of funding before moving forward with any broadband plans. In addition, a second round of funding is also available to provide infrastructure grants, public computer center projects and to help bridge the technological divide, boost economic growth and create jobs. |

| HEALTH REPORT Ranks Communities in Virginia: Gloucester County ranked 58th in a recent national health project conducted by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation called the "County Health Rankings". Fairfax County is the healthiest county in Virginia, according to the report that ranks localities by health outcomes and health factors in all 50 states. In fact, Northern Virginia counties are at the top of the list, while some counties in the southern part of the state generally fare worse.
