School Resource Division
Welcome to the School Resource Division of the Gloucester Sheriff's Office.
The School Resource Division Sergeant is Diana Shuster, and has 3 sworn officers to include one D.A.R.E. Officer, and three School Resource Officers. The School Resource Program places certified Law Enforcement officers in the High School and Middle Schools throughout our community with the goal of assisting school administrations in creating and maintaining a safe, secure, and orderly learning environment for our children and working environment for administrators, teachers, and other staff. Resource Officers receive specialized training as School Resource Officers and are valuable resource for the students, teachers, administrators, and staff.
The School Resource Officer is first and foremost a Law Enforcement Officer and is responsible for addressing any criminal complaint or incident that arises on school property, or during school sponsored events. The School Resource Officer is also a Law-Related Educator and is available to the community schools to teach classes in law-related subjects. The School Resource Officers are state certified by the Commonwealth of Virginia to instruct "Class Action". The class action program teaches students their rights, responsibilities, and obligations under the Law; as well as the consequences of their actions.
The School Resource Officer is a role model, providing a positive image through their professional appearance, genuine concern, and compassion, to students, making themselves approachable for issues and concerns students may have. The School Resource Officer serves as the Community Liaison establishing a collaborative relationship with school/community resources, and working closely with the school counselors and staff concerning students needs.
