Employment Service
VIEW (Virginia Initiative for Employment Not Welfare)
Recipients of TANF may participate in this program. VIEW offers the following activities to enhance employability.
  • Job Readiness workshops provide pre-employment information on preparation for work and general workplace expectations. Topics include interview preparation, the complete application, networking strategies and job retention skills.

  • Work Experience placements provide job seekers with the opportunity to develop basic work habits, practice skills learned in training and establish a current work history with references. Work Experience sites have been established in non-profit community organizations.

  • Education activities provide instruction in basic reading and math through the GED preparation program by referral to a variety of community programs that offer instruction at all levels.

  • Job Skills training provides job seekers with specific occupational skills through a variety of schools and programs. Based on the availability of funds, the agency may contract to provide short-term skills training in occupations in demand.

  • Employment graphicJob Placement assistance provides job seekers with information regarding business expansion and employment opportunities. Interested employers may request direct referrals to assist in filling vacancies. Agency staff can screen job seekers for specific skills, education level and work history. Work subsidies to offset training costs are also available, with minimal paperwork. For additional information, contact Gloucester Department of Social Services.

  • Supportive Services such as assistance with transportation and day care expenses may be provided to enable participants to gain or keep employment, or attend training or education programs. Assistance is based on the availability of funds and the approval of the employability plan.
