A day Antiquing in Gloucester

This day in Gloucester features a tour of Antique shops...

Located across the river from Yorktown, Gloucester offers visitors a variety of unique experiences, from cultural to educational, to just plain fun.

A pleasant drive down the Colonial Parkway and across the Coleman Bridge, takes you to Gloucester County; a county steeped in history, natural beauty and significant waterways.

Gloucester offers something for everyone's the history buff, nature lover, fishing enthusiast or devoted antique seeker.  The Courthouse Circle in Gloucester's Historic District represents one of the most architecturally sophisticated of Virginia's colonial courthouses, as well as a colonial jail and debtors' prison.  Please stop by and see us at our Visitor Center in the Roane Building.  The Gloucester Museum of History, once a colonial tavern, offers tours and historic exhibits which change regularly.  Call the Museum at 804-693-1234 for current exhibit information.

While you are here, we hope you will explore our featured antique shops, conveniently located along our two major roads.  Traveling north on Route 17 approximately 6 miles from the Coleman Bridge, you will come to Marketplace Antiques, 22,000 sq. ft. of all types of antiques and collectibles.  As you continue north you will want to spend time browsing the many vendors and antique shops open every weekend at the Stagecoach Antiques and Flea Market.  As you approach Gloucester Court House, take Business Route 17, also known as Main Street.  Just up the street you will find Wisteria Lane, with a fine selection of antiques, artwork and natural crafts such as homemade soaps.  While you're on Main Street be sure to visit our other great specialty shops and satisfy your hunger pangs at one of the many restaurants.   To walk off some of that great food, take Route 14 west for about 5 miles to Holly Hill Antiques Farm.  Exploring the many barns filled with treasures is an adventure you don't want to miss.

If you prefer the peace and quiet of nature, then you will enjoy staying at the Comfort Inn, (804-695-1900) conveniently located just south of Gloucester's Main Street, and a great place to come back to after a busy day.
