1. The Botetourt Hotel was a roadside tavern long before Main Street began to develop. It was built sometime before 1769. Gloucester County purchased it in 1965 for $35,000. The county repaired and remodeled the building at a cost of $134,080. Sections of the building, including a carport addition, were torn down and whitewash was removed to reveal the original red bricks. For many years, the building housed a variety of county offices, including the County Administrator's . It was refurbished in early 2000 and reopened as the Gloucester Museum of History and Visitor Information Center during the Daffodil Festival that same year. Tourists can visit the Museum and Visitor Information Center Monday through Friday from 11 am to 3 pm and 12 noon to 4 pm Saturday.
