Summer 2020 Programming

Due to the impacts of COVID-19 we will not be offering our usual summer programming schedule.  See below for the latest offerings.

Please note: As you know EVERYTHING HAS CHANGED! PRT is closely watching the CDC and Virginia State Re-open Regulations and has your safety and our safety as top priority. All PRT activities will be held following the CURRENT CDC guidelines and Virginia State Re-open Regulations (remember these are changing weekly). We will conduct screenings before each class, please arrive 5-10 minutes early, masks are required to enter/exit buildings (NOT required during workouts), and social distancing of at least 10 feet will be practiced. Sharing of equipment is not allowed, each student must have their own equipment. All participants must pre-register, if registration minimums are not met by the deadline, the session will be canceled. We apologize for any inconvenience that these regulations impose and ask for your cooperation as we all try to stay well during this pandemic.

Fall Youth Sports

YOUTH SOCCER

Registration for fall soccer has opened. While our hope is that the season will be as normal as possible, we don’t quite yet know what the situation will be in September. Whether it’s a regular season or skills, drills and conditioning, your child is guaranteed to have fun!

Camps

CAMP IN A BAG-WILDLIFE EXPLORER

Camp in a Bag is an at home activity featuring games, challenges, hunts, crafts, etc. Elementary age Campers will enjoy activities on Birding, Weather, Animals and more. Activities from National Recreation and Parks Association's Wildlife Explorers, Virginia Cooperative Extension and Gloucester Library included. Camp in a bag "Bags" must be picked up from the Parks, Recreation and Tourism Office, 6382 Main Street, Monday thru Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. ages 5-11. #720110, $15.

POP UP CAMPS

Pop Ups are activities in the parks, run by PRT Staff. FUN, SILLY AND ACTIVE are the key words for Pop Ups! Each one will focus on a theme. Pop Ups are free. Wear active clothes and shoes, no flip flops, open toe shoes or crocs. Bring water and drink water during the day to arrive hydrated. Ages 5-13. #730110, FREE.

Join us for the Abingdon Summer Olympics! Running, jumping and laughing will be included!

BASKETBALL CAMP

For ages 10-13. In this Coed Camp players learn individual & team skills. The goal for each player is improved game with better understanding of basketball. Each player should bring a ball (regulation 29.5), tennis shoes, an extra shirt & a towel. $59, Ark Park, 6:15pm-8:15pm, Monday-Thursday (Friday is rain make up), 704002-02. MINI MITE BASKETBALL CAMP

For ages 6-9. Camp is led by PRT youth league coaches. Participants will learn & refine basic skills such as shooting, dribbling & passing. Team concepts & some rules. Bring a 28.5 basketball (women’s ball). $27, Ark Park, 4:45pm-6pm, Monday-Thursday (Friday is rain make up), 704002-01. August 17-20, deadline August 12.

GIRLS BASKETBALL CAMP

Recreation Programs

NAMASTE YOGA

Instructor: Nichole Knott. For ages 13 and older. Want to develop a balance of strength and flexibility? Hatha Yoga refers to the balance of actions and reception–uniting the Mind/Body/Breath through classic Indian asanas (postures). Get ready for a great workout. You must bring your own supplies: preferably a mat, a set of blocks, a strap and a blanket (if you do not have or do not wish to use the blocks, strap or blanket, you can do the class without). Masks are required to enter the building but do not have to be worn during workout. Tuesdays, 5:30-6:45 pm, @Main Library Community Room. $21 per month

CHAIR YOGA

Instructors: Paula Stefanic. For ages 18 and older. A complete Yoga experience to improve or maintain flexibility, strength, balance and lung capacity. A chair replaces the yoga mat, making this class accessible to everyone! We supply sanitized chairs, please bring blocks and straps (if you do not wish to use blocks and straps, you can do the class without). Masks are required to enter the building, but do not have to be worn during workout. Mondays and Fridays, 11am-Noon, @Main Library. 4-week class $24, 5-week class $30.

FOOD SAFETY CERTIFICATION

Instructor: Marilyn Morris. This program is ideal for those in the restaurant industry. Gloucester County code requires one full-time staff person per establishment be certified. Course will cover contamination, food borne illnesses, food storage, food preparation, employee training, sanitation and more. Masks required during class. Tuesdays and Thursdays, August 18,20,25, (TEST) 27, 2-5pm, @Main Street Library.

GENTLE YOGA

Instructor: Paula Stefanic. For ages 18 & older. Gentle Yoga offers a softer, slow paced workout, while still achieving the benefits of stretching, balance and flexibility. KARATE

Sensei: Brian Jensen. Ages 4+. Learn the Shorinji Ryu style Japanese Karate form. This provides the opportunity to increase balance, strength, self- discipline and self-confidence. Kata forms are traditional and can be used in AAU or open tournament. Classes are held monthly in July and August. Location TBD. Students will be screened before entering class. There is a 10 minute break between classes for students to leave before next class enters. Please limit the number of people that come to class. Parents and spectators must practice good social distancing.
