Services
The Financial Services department’s mission is to provide fiscal services to the County of Gloucester through the recording, analyzing, and reporting of financial data and information. In addition, we disburse appropriate funds to vendors for goods and services rendered to both Gloucester County and Gloucester County Public Schools.
Financial Services includes the departments of Fiscal Services, Central Purchasing, and Real Estate Assessment. Work within these areas are performed by a dynamic, highly-motivated and productive team with a strong work ethic and personal ownership in achieving expected outcomes and results. The team members take pride in maintaining the highest level of trust earned from the County’s governing body and it’s residents.
Gloucester Receives Distinguished Budget Presentation Award
The Government Finance Officers Association is pleased to announce that Gloucester County has received GFOA's Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the County’s most recent budget. This is the seventh consecutive year the County’s Financial Services department has received the award.
The award represents a significant achievement by the County and its staff. It reflects the commitment of the governing body to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. To receive the budget award, the entity had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity's budget serves as:
A policy document
A financial plan
An operations guide
A communications device
Budget documents must be rated "proficient" in all four categories and in the fourteen mandatory criteria within those categories to receive the award.
“We are honored once again to receive this recognition,” said Cheryl Spivey, Gloucester’s Chief Financial Officer. “Our staff in Financial Services and Fiscal Services work diligently each day to improve our processes and make our accounting easier for staff and our citizens to understand.”
There are more than 1,700 participants in the Budget Awards Program. The most recent Budget Award recipients, along with their corresponding budget documents, are posted quarterly on GFOA's website. Award recipients have pioneered efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and provide an excellent example for other governments throughout North America.
