Colby Helms & The Virginia Creepers at Flat Iron Crossroads
At the bottom of the Southwest Virginia foothills half-a-mile from the nearest neighbor, 21-year-old Colby T. Helms resides in an “underground house” built by his late father on land his family has owned for generations. Colby first dreamed of making music his life at age 12, when a group of Blue Ridge Mountain old-time and bluegrass players performed songs like The Ozark Mountain Daredevils’ “Standing On The Rock” and the gospel classic “A Beautiful Life” at his father’s funeral in Boones Mill, VA. To make his dream a reality, he taught himself guitar, banjo, and mandolin by watching local performers and YouTube videos.

Historic Garden Week- Gloucester/Mathews
Historic Garden Week - Gloucester, Virginia!
Presented by the Garden Club of Virginia, Historic Garden Week encompasses tours organized and hosted by member clubs statewide.
Gloucester tour will be on Saturday, April 20
Garden at Goshen will be on Sunday, April 21
The Gloucester-Mathews tour on Saturday includes access to three private waterfront homes whose owners have cultivated beautiful gardens and collected paintings, sculptures, and objets d’art in their travels. Visitors will want to linger and take in the variety and quality of these collections, impressive in their sheer numbers. The featured properties are River Promise (1987), Paget (1928), and the Mazzocco home (1990), all overlooking the Ware River.
A separate ticket allows access to the extensive Garden at Goshen on Sunday.

Daffodil Festival Garden Tours
The Gloucester Daffodil Festival and Daffodil Show are held in Gloucester Courthouse a few miles away from Brent and Becky’s! This is a great festival for all ages. For more information about the Daffodil Festival and Daffodil Show please visit www.daffodilfestivalva.org. While you are in town make sure to visit Brent and Becky’s, which is open on Saturday and Sunday for the festival. The Gloucester Master Gardeners will be offering garden and facility tours of Brent and Becky’s, as well as Brent’s private gardens, on April 6 & 7, $10 per person.

On April 6th and 7th, the Gloucester Museum of History will host Fire, Smoke & Muskets: The museum located on Main Street and surrounding areas will come to life with the sights and sounds of the American Revolution. The weekend will include cannon and musket firing demonstrations presented by the 7th Virginia Regiment, along with colonial cooking, and period musicians. This free and family friendly program will align with Virginia’s Standards of Learning (SOLs) for students of all ages, with emphasis on Virginia studies, the American Revolution, and the Franco-American Alliance.
